£1 Million Fund Launches to Promote Women’s Football and Welsh Culture for Euro 2025

A total of 16 projects across Wales have been selected to share a £1 million fund aimed at celebrating Cymru women’s historic first appearance at the UEFA Euro 2025 football championship. 

The Welsh Government announced the funding, which will support a diverse range of initiatives including murals in player hometowns, cultural celebrations, public screening events, and football engagement activities for young people.

The projects are designed to promote Welsh values of equality and inclusion, boost participation in women’s sport, and create a lasting legacy for communities. Among the funded initiatives are two inclusive street football tournaments for women, a dedicated Women’s Coaching Network, and a campaign to increase the number of female referees.

Other projects include internationally focused classroom resources to promote language learning and global collaboration, as well as a poet-in-residence to document the team’s journey.

Welsh culture will also be showcased internationally, with performances and workshops by female Welsh artists planned in Switzerland.

Sports Minister Jack Sargeant highlighted the significance of the investment, stating, “This investment is not just about celebrating Cymru Women’s historic Euro 2025 qualification, it’s an opportunity to create lasting change across Wales.

From community murals to international cultural showcases, these innovative projects will inspire the next generation, promote Welsh values globally, and create meaningful pathways for women and girls in football.

Together, we’re using this platform to champion equality, celebrate Welsh culture, and demonstrate that Wales achieves more when we work as one”.

The Euro 2025 Partner Support Fund is part of a broader effort to harness the momentum of the women’s team’s success and to ensure that the impact of their achievement extends well beyond the tournament itself.
