Gogglebox continues to be a fixture on British television, captivating audiences for over a decade with its unique format and ever-evolving cast. Among the most popular additions in recent years are siblings Simon and Jane Minty, who joined the Channel 4 show in 2021 and have quickly become fan favourites, celebrated for their vibrant home décor and Simon’s renowned mastery of the remote control.
Initially filming from Simon’s North London flat, known for its striking book collection, the pair now bring their lively dynamic to Jane’s equally colourful home following Simon’s recent move. Off-screen, 57-year-old Simon Minty stands out not just for his television presence but as a prominent disability rights advocate and founder of Sminty Ltd, a consultancy that has advised major organisations such as the BBC, HSBC, and The Football Association on accessibility and inclusion. Simon’s influence extends beyond consultancy, as he also co-hosts the BBC podcast “Ouch!” and is an active voice in raising awareness about disability issues, reflecting the growing recognition of representation and advocacy in mainstream media.
Simon’s achievements are not limited to consultancy and broadcasting. In his 50s, he embraced a new challenge by becoming a competitive athlete, participating in the World Dwarf Games, the largest international sporting event for athletes with dwarfism. Last year, Simon competed in javelin and shot put at the 31st National Dwarf Games, sharing his experience on Instagram: “Really enjoyed both and my fellow competitors were supportive and fun. Javelin is hard; it has to land tip end first. Shot putt more straightforward. Turns out a loud grunt as you throw will gain you a few extra centimetres. No medals this time but happy to have competed and pushed myself out of my comfort zone. #DSAmazing.” Simon’s journey to the World Dwarf Games in Cologne was met with overwhelming support from fans online, with many expressing admiration for his determination and spirit. “Kinda cool becoming an athlete in your 50s. Although the best bit for me is meeting and hanging out with other short people from all over the world,” Simon remarked, highlighting the sense of community fostered by such events.
Beyond his athletic pursuits, Simon is an avid traveller, sharing snapshots from cities like Barcelona and Berlin, and enjoys London’s theatre scene and social outings with friends. Together with Jane, he manages a joint Instagram account where they chronicle their Gogglebox adventures and offer followers glimpses into their personal lives, further endearing them to viewers. Jane, meanwhile, works in a kitchen and is known for her cake-making skills, adding another layer to the Minty siblings’ appeal.
Gogglebox continues to air on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4, drawing millions of viewers each week and maintaining its place as a beloved staple of British television, while cast members like Simon and Jane Minty exemplify the show’s ability to celebrate diversity, resilience, and the everyday joys of life.
