A shopkeeper has appeared in court facing multiple charges related to food hygiene violations at his store in Newport. Jasvir Singh Hans, 35, is accused of four offences linked to Greenmeadow Stores on Greenmeadow Road, following an inspection on June 7 last year.

Among the allegations is a failure to maintain good food hygiene standards, specifically regarding protection against contamination and inadequate pest control measures. Additionally, the company Keerat and Seerat Ltd, operating at the same address, faces four similar charges under the Food Hygiene (Wales) Regulations 2006.

Neither Hans, who resides on Nash Road in Newport, nor the company entered pleas during their hearing at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court. The case has been adjourned and is scheduled to return to court on July 24.

The charges come after an investigation conducted by Newport City Council’s environmental health officers. The council continues to monitor food safety standards in local businesses to protect public health.
