Police in Wolverhampton have launched a major operation aimed at curbing violence and serious organised crime following a series of high-profile incidents in the city. The initiative, known as Operation Redfox, involves executing search warrants, conducting proactive patrols, and maintaining a strong police presence in key hotspot areas including Whitmore Reans, East Park, Heath Town, Bilston, and Dunstall, according to West Midlands Police.

This operation comes amid a surge in gun and knife crimes across Wolverhampton. Recent cases include the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Neo Graham, with five men charged in connection to the incident, and a February shooting from a car that injured three women on Frederick Street. Additionally, a 17-year-old boy was found stabbed in West Park last December.

As part of the crackdown, knife detection arches will be installed at prominent locations to deter weapon carrying. Officers will also engage with young people to raise awareness about the dangers of gang involvement and violence. The police have emphasized that gang activity, weapon possession, and organised crime such as drug dealing are not glamorous and pose serious risks to individuals and communities.

Earlier this month, the charity Crimestoppers launched a campaign encouraging residents to anonymously report information about criminal gangs and drug trafficking in Wolverhampton. This initiative supports the police effort by providing a confidential channel for the public to share intelligence without fear of reprisal.

A police spokesperson highlighted the importance of keeping public spaces safe and accessible for all community members, stating that the additional resources deployed through Operation Redfox aim to identify and disrupt those involved in serious organised crime locally.

Residents are urged to support the operation by providing information via West Midlands Police’s dedicated online portal, live chat, or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously. The operation covers the entire city but focuses on areas with the highest risk of violence, reflecting a comprehensive approach to improving community safety and reducing crime.
