Temperatures in Wales are expected to rise next week, surpassing even those forecast for the popular holiday destination of Ibiza. On Tuesday, April 29, the Met Office predicts that while Ibiza will see highs of 18°, Cardiff will experience warmer conditions with temperatures reaching 21°. Aberystwyth and Rhyl in Denbighshire are also set to enjoy daytime highs of 20°.

The extended UK forecast from April 28 to May 7 suggests a stretch of sunny weather, although some changeable conditions may occur. According to the Met Office, “Most likely starting off widely fine with sunny spells, following the clearance of early morning mist and fog.” They add that the south will see clearer skies earlier, while northern areas might face lingering cloud cover for longer.

There is a possibility that warm and fine weather could spread across the entire country, but more likely, cloud and rain in the northwest will move southeast, bringing cooler and more unsettled conditions mid-week. The forecast indicates “roughly equal chances” of either a return to mainly fine and dry weather or continued changeable conditions with a mix of rain and dry spells. Looking further ahead to May 8 through May 22, the Met Office notes an “increased chance of warm or hot spells” but also highlights that forecast confidence is lower than average for this period, typical for late spring.

During this time, a balance of drier settled periods and wetter unsettled conditions is expected, with temperatures likely around average overall. The Met Office warns that any warm or hot spells could be accompanied by locally heavy showers and thunderstorms.
