A man, a woman, and a child were injured after being attacked by three dogs at a property in Cardiff. The incident occurred on March 30 at a home on Parracombe Crescent, Llanrumney, leaving the man and woman with serious injuries while the child sustained minor wounds. The man, William Newbury, remains hospitalized, having lost part of his hand in the attack involving three Staffordshire bull terriers, which were subsequently euthanized.

William has been hailed as a hero for his courageous actions in rescuing the woman and her baby from the dogs. His mother, Helen Newbury, recounted, “On Mother’s Day my boy went to visit a friend who’d had a baby six days prior and when he pulled up in Llanrumney he got out of the car and he could hear screaming coming from the house. He had a look through the letterbox and could see she was being attacked by three dogs while she was holding the baby.”

Helen described how William forced open a window, grabbed the baby, and tossed it to safety before struggling to escape the house with the dogs attacking him. William sustained multiple injuries, including bites on his face, body, and fingers, some too severe to fully close due to the risk of infection from dog saliva. A fundraiser has been established by the woman’s family, featuring graphic images of her injuries.

Theresa French-Drew, the woman’s stepmother, praised William’s bravery, saying, “Will is a hero, there is no other word for what he did. Without him it would have been a whole different story. I’m not being dramatic, that is how it is. We are so grateful to Will and will be indebted to him forever.”

South Wales Police are currently investigating the attack but have not made any arrests. A police spokesperson confirmed, “South Wales Police was called on Sunday, March 30 to Paracombe Crescent in Llanrumney to reports of three dogs having attacked a man, a woman, and a child.

All three suffered injuries that required treatment but were not life threatening. Three Staffordshire bull terriers were put to sleep because of the incident. No arrests were made but investigations continue.”
