Tom Hardy’s highly anticipated action-thriller Havoc premiered today on Netflix, marking a significant milestone as the largest feature film ever shot entirely in Wales, according to Netflix and Creative Wales.

The film, written and directed by Welsh native Gareth Evans—renowned for The Raid and Gangs of London—follows Hardy as a battered detective navigating a treacherous criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son after a drug deal spirals out of control.

Production for Havoc took place at Great Point Studios in Cardiff, Dragon Studios in Bridgend, and on location across South Wales, with post-production also completed in Cardiff.

This project underscores Wales’ growing status as a major hub for film and television, joining the ranks of other high-profile productions like Netflix’s Sex Education and HBO’s House of the Dragon.

Backed by Creative Wales, Havoc is part of a broader investment strategy that has seen £28.6 million injected into the Welsh screen sector, projected to generate an additional £342 million for the local economy.

Since 2020, Netflix’s productions in Wales have contributed over £200 million to the UK economy and supported more than 500 Welsh businesses, while creating hundreds of job opportunities and over 420 trainee placements for local talent.

In recognition of its Welsh roots, Havoc is available with Welsh-language subtitles, furthering Netflix’s commitment to cultural inclusion, following similar moves with titles like Dal Y Mellt

Anna Mallet, Netflix’s UK Vice President of Production, praised Wales for its creative talent and stunning landscapes, emphasizing the enduring cultural and economic opportunities these productions bring.

Welsh Culture Minister Jack Sargeant highlighted the pride in the nation’s creative industries, which employ over 35,000 people, and the vital role of partnerships with global entertainment giants in boosting the Welsh economy and showcasing the nation’s capabilities on the world stage.
