The Dragons have secured a promising future by signing Dylan Kelleher-Griffiths to his first senior contract, following closely on the heels of a new deal for winger Jared Rosser. The homegrown loosehead prop, who debuted for the Dragons on New Year’s Day this season, has quickly made an impression with his dedication and rapid development.
A product of St Peter’s, Kelleher-Griffiths has also been a key player for Pontypool, notably contributing to their significant victory over rivals Ebbw Vale in December after returning from an ankle injury. Originally a back row player, he transitioned to the front row under the guidance of forwards coach Sam Hobbs, a move that has paid dividends for both player and club.
Hobbs praised Kelleher-Griffiths’ transformation, noting, “Dylan’s journey from number eight to loosehead prop over a few years has been remarkable. Despite a tough ankle injury, he returned stronger and has delivered some powerful performances. His toughness, determination, and eagerness to learn stand out.”
The 21-year-old reflected on his progress, saying, “Wearing the Dragons jersey for the first time was a dream come true. I’m excited about what we’re building as a team and grateful for the support from coaches like Filo Tiatia, Sam Hobbs, and Matt O’Brien who have been instrumental in my development from back row to front row.”
Kelleher-Griffiths’ rise through the ranks, including his appearances for Wales U20s and his steady performances in the United Rugby Championship, underline the Dragons’ commitment to nurturing local talent. With his first senior contract now secured, the club and fans alike will be watching eagerly as he continues to grow into a key figure in the squad.
