A person using a mobility scooter was taken to hospital after being struck by a car outside a busy railway station in Pontypridd town centre, Rhondda Cynon Taf. South Wales Police responded to reports of the collision shortly before 2pm on Saturday afternoon. Witnesses described a significant emergency service presence at the scene, including multiple police vehicles, an ambulance, and a fire engine, with the A4058 road outside the station blocked for some time.
South Wales Police confirmed the incident involved a car and a mobility scooter, and the scooter rider was taken to hospital as a precaution. A police spokesperson stated, “South Wales Police was called just before 2pm on Saturday April 22 with a report of a collision between the driver of a car and the rider of a mobility scooter outside Pontypridd Train Station. The rider of the mobility scooter attended hospital as a precaution.”
The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service also responded, with a spokesperson noting, “SWFRS received a call at approximately 13:56 on Saturday 19th April to reports of an accident outside Pontypridd train Station. Crews and an appliance from Pontypridd attended the scene and assisted the Police. Stop message was received around 15:19.”
In a separate incident on Tuesday, April 15, Dyfed-Powys Police revealed they are investigating after an elderly man was knocked from his mobility scooter by a car outside Brynmeddyg Surgery in Llanybydder. The driver, who parked in the surgery car park, did not report the collision to the police. The elderly man was taken to hospital for treatment by family members, and his scooter was damaged; police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that could help identify the driver of the blue car.
