A significant cannabis cultivation operation was uncovered by police on a quiet street in Wales on Thursday, April 24. Officers from South Wales Police attended a property on Caroline Street in Blaengwynfi, where they found class B drugs growing inside four separate rooms. All the plants were seized, but no individuals were present at the time of the search.
South Wales Police issued a statement confirming the execution of a positive drugs warrant at the address, revealing the discovery of four cannabis grow rooms within the property. The statement emphasized that no one was found inside during the operation. The police reiterated that all plants had been confiscated as part of their enforcement action.
The police website highlights that possession, supply, or production of cannabis remains illegal, with penalties including arrest, prosecution, and prison sentences of up to five years for possession and up to 14 years for supply. Additional consequences may include unlimited fines and out-of-court actions, which can impact travel, visa applications, university placements, and employment opportunities.
The statement also clarifies that smoking cannabis at home is illegal, and possessing medical cannabis products without a prescription is against the law.Concerns about the smell of cannabis affecting neighbors and the wider community are acknowledged by the police, who have the authority to take enforcement action to address related anti-social behavior.
Social housing tenants, private renters, and students in university accommodation may face further consequences, as landlords or universities could be contacted and may pursue enforcement measures against tenancies or placements. Support services are available for those affected, with additional information accessible through official channels.
For ongoing updates, residents are encouraged to join local news communities, including WhatsApp groups, which also offer occasional promotions and special offers. The police and community partners remain committed to addressing drug-related issues while providing resources to support affected individuals and neighborhoods.
