Police Renew Witness Appeal Following Denbighshire Crash That Hospitalized Seven
North Wales Police have issued renewed calls for witnesses and dashcam footage after a major collision on the A541 in Bodfari left seven people hospitalized, including two children with critical injuries.
The three-vehicle crash occurred near the Downing Arms Inn at approximately 19:40 BST on Wednesday, April 23rd, prompting a large-scale emergency response involving air ambulances, the NPAS helicopter, and forensic investigators.
Severity of Injuries
A 12-year-old girl, a passenger in an Audi Q3, remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while a 13-year-old girl from the same vehicle is hospitalized with serious injuries. The Audi’s female driver is receiving treatment at Aintree Hospital for life-changing injuries, and another female passenger from the Audi is in critical care in Stoke.
The male driver of a Mercedes A200 sustained life-changing injuries and is being treated at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. A 20-year-old BMW driver, arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving, has been released under investigation. A male Mercedes passenger, also arrested, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
Investigation and Community Impact
Detective Sergeant Katie Davies emphasized the ongoing investigation, urging witnesses or those with footage of the silver BMW 118 and Mercedes A200 prior to the collision to come forward.
Local resident Tony Johnson described rescuing a driver from a burning vehicle moments before it became fully engulfed, highlighting the crash’s severity on a notorious blind bend3. The road reopened by Thursday morning, but debris and damaged infrastructure remained visible near the scene.
