This notice explains how we collect and use these categories of personal data.

We also collect, use, and share anonymized data like statistical or demographic data. For example, we might aggregate Usage Data to calculate the percentage of users reading a specific story or viewing an ad. However, if we combine or connect anonymized data with your personal data, we treat it as personal data under this privacy notice.

We generally do not collect Sensitive Data unless it’s related to editorial content in our publications or you provide it for a specific purpose. If you use S1 Jobs, you may upload your CV, which can be viewed by permitted organizations. You should avoid including Sensitive Data in your CV, but you can amend or delete it through your account at any time.

We may need personal data to fulfill a contract for services you’ve ordered from us (e.g., advertising) or to meet a legal obligation. If you don’t provide it, we might have to cancel your order, but we’ll notify you if that’s the case.

Third-Party Links

Our websites may contain links to third-party websites, applications, and plug-ins (e.g., ‘Facebook recommend’). Clicking on these links or enabling these connections may allow third parties to collect or share data about you. These organizations may use your data from your visit to our websites. For more information, please review their privacy policies. We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their privacy practices.

Children

We generally do not target products or services directly at children under 16 or collect information about them, except in newsgathering. Children may sometimes be invited to participate in competitions and promotions, in which case parental or guardian consent is required.

Data Protection in Newsgathering

We collect information for producing news and other information services (“editorial information”), which may include extensive personal data. The law acknowledges the importance of a free press by exempting it from most data protection provisions for proper journalistic purposes. We respect privacy rights and comply with relevant data protection principles wherever possible.

News and features are published by our titles both in print and online, and may also be distributed via social media like Facebook and Twitter. Content may also be published by other titles within The National Wales or syndicated to third-party publishers globally. After initial publication, content may be archived indefinitely as part of a public record.

We may also store unpublished information for future publication, such as background research for developing stories or obituaries. We review this information at least every seven years and discard it if it’s no longer relevant or accurate.

Our websites and social media pages feature comment sections where users can post about news stories and other topics. These posts may contain personal data and are uploaded without our intervention. The poster consents to the processing of this material and is primarily responsible for it. We enforce user terms and an acceptable use policy and respond to complaints through the ‘report this post’ link provided.
