Motorists have been handed a valuable tip that could slash their car insurance premiums by an impressive 25 percent, thanks to YouTube personality Mick Drives Guys. The key lies in how drivers describe their occupation on insurance forms, a simple tweak that can lead to significant savings. Mick emphasized, “This one is really good. It can really work for literally anybody that’s looking to insure a car, it doesn’t have to be the young driver. That is to rephrase your job.”

Drawing from his own experience, Mick shared how a minor adjustment in his job title cut his insurance bill substantially. He explained, “So say for example there was a while back I was an Operations Manager, I worked for a tech company. So what I did, rather than putting down Operations Manager Tech which had really high insurance premiums for whatever reason. I guess tech guys crash cars.” By changing it to “Operations Manager Computer Services,” he saw his premium drop by about 25 percent, a surprising reduction for what essentially amounts to the same role.

Comparison site USwitch supported this approach, noting that using alternate job titles can lower costs, such as a journalist listing themselves as a writer or a researcher as an analyst. Mick, who boasts nearly 200,000 subscribers, urged viewers to pay attention, saying, “If you’re tired of spending a ton of money on car insurance, then this video is a must-watch! We’ll dive into all the tips and tricks you need to get those rates down. If you’re a new driver, you’ll wanna pay close attention.” He also reassured experienced drivers by promising advanced hacks to help cut expenses.

One motorist shared their personal story with Birmingham Live, highlighting the stark difference location and job description can make. They said, “I just applied for my first years insurance on a 2014 Fiesta Ecoboost. I’m 28 and currently living up north, but I was originally due to move to London this month.” Their friend had obtained a quote for South London that came in at around £4,500, while a Liverpool quote, with a named driver and low mileage, was just £1,500-an amount they considered manageable.

Reflecting on the financial relief, the motorist added, “Imagine saving £400 a month to go towards car insurance on top of the cost of rent, bills, food? I picked an excellent time to finally pass my test lol.” This real-world example underscores the potential impact of small changes in job descriptions and location when seeking affordable car insurance.
