A family in south Wales was shocked when their 10-year-old son was hit by a car while riding his bike during the Easter holidays.

Cristina Micu, a mother of three from Blackwood, shared the terrifying experience of learning that her son Louis was struck by a car near Bloomfield Road on April 16. Louis described feeling intense pain when his bike was hit from behind, causing him to fall to the ground around 10:30 in the morning.

Cristina expressed her shock, recalling her initial feelings of helplessness upon hearing the news. A family friend who was nearby recognized Louis, called her, and she rushed to the scene. Seeing Louis injured and unable to walk, she described him as shocked, crying, bruised, and trembling.

Louis was taken to the hospital, where fortunately he was found to have only minor injuries, a result his mother considers a miracle given the severity of the accident. The driver, who immediately apologized to Louis, has not made any further contact or inquiries about his condition since the incident.

Following the accident, Louis has been experiencing nightmares, fear of being alone, and waking up crying during the night. Cycling, once his passion, is now uncertain for Louis, leaving his mother concerned about his future ability to ride again.

Ten days after the incident, Louis’s parents had to take him back to the hospital, where doctors recommended an MRI scan if his pain persists.

Cristina is eager to view CCTV footage to understand the events of that day and is appealing to anyone who may have dashcam recordings to provide them to her or Gwent Police.

Gwent Police confirmed responding to a road traffic collision on Bloomfield Road at 10 am on April 16, conducting CCTV and dashcam investigations at the time.

By sharing Louis’s story, Cristina hopes to raise awareness about road safety, particularly regarding cyclists and children, urging drivers to be more cautious.
