Wales Showcases Skills and Creativity to Japanese Business Leaders in Tokyo
Tokyo, Japan – Wales has reinforced its economic partnership with Japan at a high-profile investor showcase held in Tokyo. As a key event within the Welsh Government’s Year of Wales and Japan celebrations in 2025, the showcase brought together leading Japanese entrepreneurs and businesses from various sectors.
The Wales Investor Showcase, hosted by Rebecca Evans, the Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, aimed to cultivate enduring trade benefits for both nations in key areas like renewable energy and digital transformation.
Wales and Japan have fostered a strong relationship over the decades. Since the initial Japanese investments in Wales during the 1970s, the country now hosts 70 Japanese companies.
Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Evans emphasized the depth of the relationship:
“Deep-rooted connections between Wales and Japan have flourished for generations, with trade links thriving over the last 50 years. With the World’s economies crying out for security and growth opportunities this is an opportune time for us to deepen our ties with Japan. It’s been heartening to hear so much positivity around our shared ambitions. The Wales Investor Showcase was about making introductions, deepening conversations and exploring investment opportunities for mutual growth and a sustainable, prosperous future for the next 50 years and beyond. It also highlighted the skills, creativity, tradition and world-leading capabilities in key sectors that define modern Wales.”
Mr. Kazushi Ambe, Senior Adviser of Sony Group, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the enduring qualities of the partnership:
“The partnership between Wales and Japan, built over more than half a century, reflects deep mutual respect, shared values, and a strong sense of connection. In a time of constant change, it is these enduring qualities that continue to unite us. This showcase serves as a significant opportunity to further strengthen this bond and explore new avenues for collaboration. As both sides embrace new challenges and pursue progress, I sincerely hope this partnership will evolve even further and continue to thrive into the future.”
In addition to the Investor Showcase, the Cabinet Secretary is hosting a Wales Day event at the international Osaka Expo. The Welsh Government also plans to conduct two trade missions to Japan later this year, assisting Welsh businesses in exploring export opportunities within the Japanese market.
