Gareth Boyd, who launched Wrexham’s walking food tours in August, has tapped into this momentum. Already offering tours in Chester, Liverpool, and Shrewsbury, Gareth’s venture, Walking Food Tours UK, has rapidly grown to include Wrexham as its latest destination.
“After the success of Chester, Liverpool, and Shrewsbury, the plan was always to get onto Wrexham, and I suppose the Hollywood bubble accelerated the desire to do that,” he remarked.
The draw for visitors goes beyond football; they’re equally eager to experience Wrexham’s vibrant food scene.
Gareth noted, “Historically it hasn’t really been associated with food and drink. You have the football, you have St Giles Church, the miners, but now from a food and drink perspective, it’s really on the up too.”
International Guests and Local Partnerships
Guests come from all over the globe to take in Wrexham’s evolving culture.
“I’ve had guests from Canada, I’ve had corporate tours, firms have used it for team-building and networking. Many of our guests have never been to Wrexham before,” shared Gareth.
The tours extend beyond just tasting; they include connections with local business owners, adding depth to the experience. “It’s about the culture, it’s about meeting the business owners, hearing their stories, hearing about the food,” he added.
This thriving culinary interest has fostered partnerships with local venues, helping independent businesses gain visibility.
“It is very much a true partnership with the venues on the tour, the independent businesses we work with, whether that’s selling wine, cocktails, amazing savories or desserts, and helping to put them on the map as well, to that international and local audience,” explained Gareth.
Upcoming Event Celebrates Local Business Success
Gareth Boyd will discuss his entrepreneurial journey at a business breakfast on Tuesday, November 19, from 8 am to 10 am at William Aston Hall in Wrexham. The event, organized by Theatr Clwyd in collaboration with Wrexham University and supported by Wrexham Business Professionals, will include other prominent speakers, including Wrexham Council’s Chief Executive Ian Bancroft and Wrexham University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joe Yates.
Theatr Clwyd’s Impact on Wrexham’s Cultural Scene
The event is hosted by Liam Evans-Ford, CEO of Theatr Clwyd, who noted the venue’s importance.
“Theatr Clwyd and William Aston Hall are key players in the future prosperity of the creative industries in our region,” said Louise Harper of Wrexham Business Professionals. She continued, “The venues bring in visitors from near and far, providing first-class entertainment, and there is a whole host of exciting developments going on at the sites.”
Passion for Local Heritage
Walking Food Tours UK prides itself on employing guides who are deeply passionate about the cities they represent. Beyond food and drink, they share the cultural and historical richness of Wrexham.
“The tours are not just about the food and drink; it’s about the culture,” shared Gareth.
As Wrexham continues to thrive in the global spotlight, its culinary landscape is emerging as a central attraction, drawing visitors eager to savor not only its dishes but also its stories.
