Over 30 sexual offence reports at Conwy schools in past year

More than 30 reports of sexual offences have been made at schools in Conwy over the past 12 months, according to data obtained by the North Wales Pioneer through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to North Wales Police.

The FOI request sought details of each report made within Conwy school premises since 1 October 2025, including the alleged offence, the suspect’s age and the outcome of the report. The police disclosed that a total of 37 reports have been logged during this period.

Among the reports, there was a single allegation of rape involving a female child under the age of 13 and a male suspect. North Wales Police confirmed that from October to December 2025 there were 10 reports of sexual offences, which included the rape allegation.

In 2026, 27 reports have been recorded so far, the majority relating to sexual assault on females aged 13 or over.

Several cases involved suspects who are below the age of criminal responsibility. Police noted that in some instances “formal police action is not in the public interest” or that “another body/agency has investigation primacy”.

The force added that the location being logged as a particular school does not necessarily mean the incident occurred at that school, and that incidents may be reported at or near school premises, both during and outside school hours, and can involve members of the public unrelated to the school.

North Wales Police further explained that the classification of incidents follows Home Office counting rules, meaning the titles used may not reflect the seriousness of the underlying events. The force stressed that the data “is therefore not a true reflection of the school, the pupils or the staff.” The figures are correct as at Tuesday, 8 September.
