Sean and Charlotte Emanuel have secured a remarkable hat-trick of hospitality accolades for their village pub, Tafarn Cefn Hafod, in Gorsgoch, Ceredigion. The husband-and-wife team has earned recognition across three distinct national and regional award schemes, marking a significant milestone for their independent business.
The pub has been named a finalist for Best Restaurant at the UK Small Business Awards 2026, representing West Wales in the national competition. This achievement places the rural establishment in direct contention with competitors from across the United Kingdom for the prestigious title.
In addition to the UK-wide recognition, the couple has been shortlisted for Gastro Pub of the Year at the Food Awards Wales 2026. They have also confirmed winning Best Gastro Pub of the Year at the Wales Prestige Awards 2027/28, cementing their status in the industry.
Sean Emanuel operates as the head chef, overseeing the kitchen, while Charlotte manages front-of-house operations. The pair are largely responsible for the day-to-day running of the business, ensuring high standards are maintained in both service and culinary preparation.

4 hours agoReflecting on the success, Sean said: “It’s difficult to put into words just how much this means to us.” We work incredibly hard, and being recognised across three different awards competitions in such a short space of time is something we never expected.
He continued: “To have our little village pub recognised not only in Wales but now in a UK-wide Best Restaurant category is absolutely incredible.” Beyond serving freshly prepared food, the pub provides a meeting place for the surrounding rural community, hosting local organisations, social gatherings and regular dining events.
Sean added: “We also want to thank our customers and our local community.” Their continued support, recommendations and encouragement are a huge part of why we’re able to do what we do.
The Food Awards Wales winners will be announced at a ceremony in Swansea on 30 November, while the UK Small Business Awards competition is expected to conclude in December. For the couple, this recognition marks an encouraging milestone for their independently operated countryside pub.
