Artificial Intelligence, Automation & Editorial Responsibility
At The National Wales (thenational.wales), we embrace modern technological innovation to deliver rapid, comprehensive public service reporting, while upholding the timeless journalistic principles of truth, human accountability, and rigorous verification.
1. The Role of Technology in Our Newsroom
Modern newsrooms process hundreds of statutory notices, government statistical releases, court lists, emergency weather advisories, and police bulletins every day. The National Wales utilizes advanced digital automation, natural language parsing, and AI-assisted data research tools to:
- Monitor public open-data feeds from the Senedd, Welsh Government, Met Office, and NHS Wales.
- Transcribe public committee proceedings, ministerial briefings, and press conferences.
- Assist reporters with data aggregation, statistical trend analysis, and metadata optimization.
2. Guaranteed Human-in-the-Loop Editorial Oversight
We do not publish unverified, fully automated, or unattended AI-generated news. Every article, headline, and report published on thenational.wales undergoes human editorial oversight, fact verification, and curation under the direct personal leadership of Senior Correspondent and Editor Eli Nathan (@elinathan1122).
Our editorial leadership takes full legal, ethical, and editorial responsibility for all published copy under English and Welsh law, including full accountability under the Defamation Act 2013 and the Contempt of Court Act 1981.
3. Triangulation Against Primary Records
Artificial intelligence systems are never treated as sources of truth. All factual assertions, statistics, quotes, and timelines must originate from and be verified against primary human sources, statutory public registers, or authorized press officers. We enforce zero tolerance for synthetic factual hallucination.
4. Photography & Visual Integrity
We do not use synthetic AI image generators to create misleading or fabricated news imagery. All news photography published on thenational.wales meets high-resolution Google Discover visual standards (≥ 1200px width) and depicts authentic subjects, verifiable events, and actual Welsh locations. When illustrative graphics or diagrams are generated digitally, they are clearly identified as such.
5. Reader Data Protection
In strict compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), reader emails, inquiries, and personal correspondence are never uploaded into public AI model training datasets.
