Haverfordwest Connecting the Community Initiative Wins First Place One Voice Wales Award
Haverfordwest Town Council’s initiative won first place in Wales for tackling the cost-of-living crisis, helping 147 residents at a recent HaverHub event.
Haverfordwest Town Council’s Connecting the initiative has secured first place in Wales for its efforts to address the cost-of-living crisis. The recognition was presented by Lyn Cadwallader, Chief Executive of One Voice Wales, following a successful community event held at HaverHub on October 29.
During the afternoon gathering, 147 residents were assisted with essential resources and support. The event featured free interactions with alpacas from Sweet Home Alpaca, providing a unique and joyful experience for attendees while fostering local community spirit.
Haverfordwest Mayor Cllr Randell Thomas-Turner stated: “This is what Connecting the Community is all about: tackling the cost-of-living crisis, reducing isolation and bringing people together.” He added: “A massive thank you to Lyn and One Voice Wales for recognising the hard work, dedication and community spirit behind this initiative.”
The mayor further noted: “This recognition shows what can happen when a town council, local organisations, businesses and volunteers work together with one common purpose: supporting our residents when they need it most.” He emphasised that the true achievement lies in the people reached and connections built, rather than the award itself.
Chair of Pembrokeshire County Council, Cllr Delme Harries, attended the event to witness the initiative first-hand. The council expressed gratitude to PACTO, Bloomfield House Community Centre NDCSA Transport, and Police Community Support Officers for their logistical and advisory support.
Additional acknowledgements were made to numerous local partners, including Specsavers Haverfordwest, The VC Gallery, 1st Haverfordwest Scout Group, and Dyfed-Powys Police. The mayor concluded: “Every contribution matters.” Whether it is providing food, offering activities, helping with transport, donating resources or simply giving someone a warm welcome, you are helping make Haverfordwest a more connected and supportive place to live.
