Transport for Wales has confirmed that serving military personnel and veterans will receive free travel on its rail and bus networks for Remembrance commemorations. The announcement, issued on Monday, 2 November, covers Remembrance Sunday on 8 November and Armistice Day on 11 November. This initiative extends across mid and west Wales, supporting access to key commemorative events.
Eligible passengers can travel free on all TfW rail services on both designated days. The offer also encompasses all TrawsCymru bus services, including routes connecting communities across Ceredigion, Powys and Gwynedd. Additionally, free rail travel is available on Friday, 6 November, for those travelling to and from Cardiff Central to attend the official Remembrance service.
Serving Armed Forces personnel travelling in uniform qualify automatically for the free travel concession. Those not wearing uniform, including veterans, must present appropriate identification to access the service. Accepted forms of proof include a MOD90 identity card, Veterans Railcard, Veterans ID Card, or evidence of a military pension.
TfW stated that the initiative is designed to recognise the service and sacrifice of Britain’s Armed Forces community. The measure aims to facilitate attendance at commemorative events for both serving personnel and veterans. Passengers are encouraged to check their specific journeys before travelling to ensure smooth access.
