Plans Revealed for More Connected Rail Services Across the Swansea Region
Transport for Wales has unveiled the Swansea Bay and West Wales Metro plan, proposing new railway stations, up to two extra trains per hour on two routes and a public survey running from 3 November to 13 December 2026.
The proposals aim to cement Swansea’s role as a regional transport hub, giving residents easier access to jobs, education, healthcare and leisure while linking the city more closely with neighbouring towns.
Potential new stations include Cockett, Landore, Winsh‑wen, Morriston, Llandarcy, Felindre and Pont‑lliw, bringing passenger rail services within walking distance of many communities across the Swansea area.
Improved rail connectivity is expected to boost the local economy by widening access to employment centres, supporting business growth and making public transport a more practical option for regional travel.
Two development phases are under consideration: the first focusing on enhanced services between Swansea and Pembrey & Burry Port, and the second creating a new link between Swansea and Ammanford via Neath.
