Awen Housing Group launches new identity across South East Wales
Monmouthshire Housing Association rebrands as Awen Housing Group, unveiling a fresh vision and a 5,000‑home ambition by 2030 while pledging continuity for tenants.
Awen Housing Group has unveiled a new corporate identity, replacing the former Monmouthshire Housing Association, as it continues to own and manage more than 4,000 homes across South East Wales.
Founded in 2008, the organisation originally served Monmouthshire alone before extending its portfolio into neighbouring Torfaen and Newport over the past few years.
The rebrand to Awen – a Welsh word meaning “inspiration” – is intended to signal the group’s expanding geographical reach and its ambition to deliver a larger stock of affordable homes.
Alongside the new name, the housing provider has launched a refreshed vision, mission and a set of five core values – Caring, Trusted, Listening, Ambitious and Together – all drawn from extensive consultation with residents, partner bodies and staff.
Ann Cornelious, newly appointed chair of Awen Housing Group, said: “The launch of Awen marks an exciting new chapter, building on the strong foundations and achievements established as Monmouthshire Housing Association.” As we work towards our ambition of delivering 5,000 homes by 2030, our focus remains on supporting more people, enhancing services for our customers and creating new opportunities through our valued partnerships.
Our roots remain firmly planted in Monmouthshire, where our journey began almost two decades ago. As Awen, we are well placed to strengthen our impact and make an even greater difference across South East Wales.”
The 5,000‑home target forms the cornerstone of the group’s long‑term strategic plan, which aims to increase the supply of social and affordable housing while maintaining high standards of tenant support.
Stakeholders across the region have welcomed the rebrand, noting that the continuity of service is as important as the fresh visual identity.
Gwyndaf Tobias, chief executive of Awen Housing Group, added: “While our name is changing, our customers will continue to be at the heart of every decision we make, supported by the same trusted services and the same dedicated colleagues who deliver them every day.”
The transition follows the recent appointment of Ann Cornelious as chair, succeeding Tony Deakin after a successful tenure that oversaw significant portfolio growth and the introduction of new support programmes.
Local authorities in Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Newport have been briefed on the rebrand, confirming that existing partnership agreements and funding streams will remain unchanged.
Tenants have been reassured that rent collection, repair schedules and community‑development initiatives will continue under the same operational framework, with the Awen brand merely reflecting a broader strategic outlook.
Industry analysts suggest that the rebrand could enhance the group’s ability to attract investment, particularly as the Welsh Government pushes for accelerated delivery of affordable homes by the end of the decade.
Community groups have praised the values‑led approach, saying that the emphasis on “Listening” and “Together” aligns with recent calls for greater resident involvement in housing decisions.
With the new identity now live, Awen Housing Group is set to roll out a series of outreach events across its service area, aiming to embed the refreshed brand and values in the everyday experience of its more than 10,000 residents.
