Slim Chickens opens in Broughton with free chicken giveaways
The new drive‑through restaurant will welcome customers from midday, with a series of giveaways designed to draw crowds on opening day.
Slim Chickens will open its first North Wales outlet on Tuesday 6 October, bringing the US‑born fried‑chicken chain to the former Tim Hortons unit at Broughton Shopping Park.
The new drive‑through restaurant will welcome customers from midday, with a series of giveaways designed to draw crowds on opening day.
Motorists who arrive in a red‑coloured car will be handed three free chicken tenders at the drive‑through window, a promotion the company says is limited to the first red‑car drivers each day.
In addition, the first 50 pedestrians to walk through the doors when the restaurant opens will receive a free portion of chicken, according to the chain’s social‑media announcement.
Perhaps the most lucrative incentive targets the first 5,000 diners who place an order. Each will be issued a special “driver’s licence” card with a concealed prize on the reverse side, meaning every holder walks away with a win.
One lucky cardholder will be awarded a lifetime supply of Slims, a prize the chain describes as “free Slims for life”.
The promotion has been heavily publicised on Slim Chickens’ UK social channels, where the company has been counting down to the launch with daily posts.
The Broughton site occupies the former Tim Hortons space, a conversion that required new branding, signage and exterior alterations approved by Flintshire Council in October 2025.
The planning application was submitted by franchise operator Boparan Restaurant Group, which now oversees the development of the 2,500‑square‑foot outlet.
Construction work has been underway for several months, with the interior fitted out to accommodate both drive‑through and dine‑in customers.
Recruitment for the new restaurant has accelerated in recent weeks, with adverts for team‑member and assistant‑manager roles appearing on the company’s website.
Prospective staff have been urged to apply promptly, as the outlet is expected to reach full staffing levels before the October opening.
Local residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some welcoming the addition of a new fast‑food option to the shopping park, while others raise concerns about increased traffic on the A525.
Flintshire Council’s traffic officer noted that the drive‑through layout includes a dedicated turning lane to mitigate congestion during peak periods.
Parking at the shopping park will remain free for customers, and the site’s existing car park will be shared between the new restaurant and neighbouring retailers.
Customers planning to claim the free chicken offers are advised to arrive early, as the promotions are expected to be claimed quickly.
“We’re excited to bring Slim Chickens to North Wales and to celebrate with our community,” a spokesperson for the franchise said in a statement, adding that the launch marks a significant milestone for the brand’s UK expansion.
The opening follows a broader trend of US‑based fast‑food chains establishing a foothold in Wales, with recent entrants including Shake Shack and Popeyes.
Industry analysts suggest that the success of such ventures depends on localisation of menu items and competitive pricing, factors Slim Chickens says it has considered in its UK rollout.
As the clock strikes twelve on 6 October, the Broughton Shopping Park will become the latest culinary destination for fried‑chicken lovers in the region.
